So today I adopted a cat! Yay me! Her name is Merlin’s Beard! So Merlin inspired today’s post.
I know Hipsters are all about being animal friendly and everything, save the whales blah blah blah. I was just wondering how far they would really go for an animal? When I brought Merlin home my family’s commentary on her appearance (She is not the cutest kitty on the block) was rather negative.
They asked why I would pick a cat that was probably the least cute kitty there. I thought about it, and I wonder if a hipster who would protest against animal cruelty and what not would actually take an animal with wheels for legs, or one eye home as a pet.
Why is everything based off of looks? Why would a cuter pet be taken home before an animal with a sweeter personality? And we are also that way with people. We are a society based on looks. If we have imperfections we are less likely to associate with things we don’t find pleasing to the eye.
So back to what I was originally saying, upon bringing her home and my family paying not so polite comments I realized that I preferred her to the others because her personality was just so endearing. Her need for affection, and attention was hard to ignore. I chose her not for looks but for her personal identity. If that even makes sense.
Perhaps we should all just chill out and take the time to enjoy something, or someone for what they really are worth instead of they look like as an individual. Then again that goes back to the old age parable “don’t judge a book by its cover.” But we do. I know I do. Even when I make an effort not to, I still do. Heck at least there is some effort made. ‘nuff said.
